Town Centre Management
In 2011 the Douglas Development Partnership appointed a town centre manager to deliver events and initiatives which would help increase footfall and dwell time in the town centre.
The Partnership organises a series of events including the Tower of Refuge Walk, Continental Food and Craft Fairs and seasonal activities for Valentine’s Day, Halloween and Christmas. The Partnership also works with third parties in the delivery of their events, including the KPMG Promenade relay and the record breaking Barclays Three Legged Race.
You can find a list of upcoming events for the town centre here.
If you have an idea for an event you would like to hold in the town centre, please contact the town centre manager who will be able to advise and assist you.
The town centre manager coordinates initiatives designed to support town centre business, particularly the independent businesses. These initiatives include:
Best Dressed Business
During the Christmas shopping period we work with our media partners Manx Radio and Gallery Magazine to run a competition to determine the business with the best festive window dressing. The winning business receives a year of free advertising on Manx Radio and a full page advert in Gallery Magazine.
The winner of the 2013 competition was Head Candy hairdressers.
The Partnership commissioned local artist Alice Quayle to design a map which showcases the 150 independent businesses which are based in the town centre. These maps are made available to visitors such as cruise passengers and are available in the businesses themselves, the Partnership office, the Welcome Centre and Costa Coffee in the Sea Terminal. They will be available in hotels from January 2015. You can also download a copy of the map from here.
Town Centre Advent Calendar
Throughout December we will be working with town centre businesses to offer some great deals and offers exclusively through the Douglas Town Centre Management Facebook page.
Every other month all town centre retailers are invited to a meeting to discuss town centre issues and share information with colleagues. From time to time representatives from the Police or Government departments may attend.
If you are a town centre retailer who would like to be kept up to date about retailer meeting dates then please click here to register with us.
